Two documents show that Vietnamese leader To Lam is expected to announce a series of agreements involving energy, technology, aviation and financial companies by U.S. and Vietnamese businesses during his trip to New York next week, Reuters reported. The business deals - many expected to be non-binding - have been part of Vietnam's months-long strategy to reassure Washington as the Trump administration threatens new tariffs on the export-reliant Southeast Asian nation. An internal planning note lists 29 agreements that could be announced at a Sept. 23 business conference in New York attended by To Lam. U.S. energy firms Murphy Oil and Chevron are expected to announce agreements with state-owned PetroVietnam, while Exxon Mobil will announce a deal with Vietnam's second-largest refinery, Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical. The trip is also aimed at advancing trade negotiations with the United States and could finalize a trade agreement that has been under negotiation for more than a year, two officials said. But a meeting with Trump is not certain, sources said. A White House official said on Tuesday that Trump's schedule had not been confirmed.
