OpenAI is working with key rivals Anthropic PBC and Google DeepMind on measures to address AI safety concerns, as the industry ramps up its response to growing fears about the potential economic and security threats posed by the technology. Chris Lehane, OpenAI's global policy chief, said Tuesday that the company's engagement with Anthropic and Google had been underway for weeks. He also said OpenAI doesn't believe the three AI companies need antitrust exemptions to coordinate on safety. "It's better to try to work together and prioritize safety," Lehane said at a briefing in Washington.
