OpenAI: Collaborating with Anthropic and Google on AI safety issues
OpenAI is working with its biggest rival Anthropic PBC and Google's DeepMind to jointly develop measures to address AI safety issues, a move that escalates industry-level efforts to respond to growing concerns that the technology could pose economic and security threats. Chris Lehane, OpenAI's global policy chief, said the company's engagement with Anthropic and Google has been ongoing for several weeks. OpenAI believes the three AI companies do not need antitrust exemptions to coordinate on safety matters. "It's preferable to work together to prioritize safety," Lehane said at a briefing in Washington, D.C.
