Recently, customers of multiple banks in Hong Kong reported that their credit cards were stolen for ordering Apple phones. In response, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Monetary Authority said that effective measures have always been required for credit card transactions to ensure security and protect customers' interests. Individual merchants may, based on operational considerations, choose not to use or suspend additional authentication arrangements. In such cases, the merchant must bear the responsibility and financial losses for unauthorized transactions. The spokesperson said that bank credit cardholders should carefully check transaction records, and if they suspect or discover that their credit cards have been misused, they should notify the issuing bank as soon as possible, including immediately deactivating the relevant credit card through online banking. Generally speaking, if a bank credit card account is used for unauthorized transactions and the cardholder has not committed any fraud or gross negligence, they are not liable for the unauthorized transactions.
