The International Atomic Energy Agency approves East Timor's membership application.
On September 14 local time, the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency approved Timor-Leste's application for membership. Timor-Leste will become the agency's 182nd member state. Timor-Leste had previously applied to join the International Atomic Energy Agency and received a recommendation from the agency's Board of Governors. After approval by the General Conference, Timor-Leste still needs to deposit its instrument of acceptance of the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and will formally become a member state after completing the relevant procedures. The 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency opened on the 14th in Vienna, Austria.
