Hungary builds dams on the Danube Riverbed to ensure the operation of nuclear power plants.

According to CCTV News, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbn stated on the 12th that the Hungarian government has ordered the construction of underwater diversion dams on the Danube Riverbed between Paks and Dunakeszi to ensure a supply of cooling water for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant during low water levels in the Danube. This measure could ultimately raise local water levels by approximately 1 meter. In addition, to prevent the nuclear power plant from being forced to shut down before the diversion dam is completed, the Hungarian government has prepared two barges as a temporary solution, which could be sunk if necessary to temporarily raise the Danube water level by up to 20 centimeters. The Paks Nuclear Power Plant is located about 100 kilometers south of Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and is the only nuclear power plant in Hungary, as well as an important source of electricity for the country. Previously, several units of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant had suspended operations due to low water levels in the Danube and insufficient cooling water sources.
