The Moroccan Minister of Justice reiterated Morocco's claims to sovereignty over the two cities, while the Spanish government responded that the status of these two enclaves in North Africa as Spanish territory is "not up for discussion." In an interview on the 11th, Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi stated that the issue of the status of Ceuta and Melilla is always raised during negotiations with Spain, and Morocco's long-term goal is to resolve this issue through dialogue. This marks the first time Morocco has publicly reiterated its claims to sovereignty over the two cities since a massive wave of illegal immigration occurred in Ceuta at the end of July.
