Alvin Liew, a senior economist at UOB in Singapore, stated in a report that the U.S. inflation rate may have peaked in the second quarter, but uncertainty surrounding energy prices means inflation could rise again. Liew noted that the decline in energy prices has helped to suppress inflation. However, he said, Energy prices are still at elevated levels If oil prices rise again, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could quickly reverse the recent cooling of inflation. The bank expects that the average increase in overall CPI and core CPI in the U.S. will be approximately 3.5% and 2.8%, respectively, by 2026.
