Meta has banned over 750,000 suspected underage accounts in Australia and pledged to strengthen law enforcement.

On Thursday, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced that since Australia implemented the world's first social media account ban targeting teenagers, it has suspended over 750,000 accounts suspected to be held by Australians under the age of 16, and it pledged to take further action. The company stated that from the time the Australian social media ban took effect last December until June this year, it has deactivated 462,000 suspicious Instagram accounts and 294,000 suspicious Facebook accounts. In comparison, as of January this year, the company reported that it had removed 331,000 Instagram accounts and 173,000 Facebook accounts. Australia's internet regulator is considering legal action against several social media platforms, including those under Meta, on the grounds that these platforms have not taken adequate measures to comply with relevant laws.
