Morocco claims to have detected social media posts inciting the public to engage in illegal immigration and has launched an investigation.
On the 12th of local time, Moroccan Interior Ministry spokesman Khalifi issued a statement stating that the ministry recently detected posts of unknown origin circulating on some social media platforms, inciting large-scale mass illegal migration. The Moroccan government is closely monitoring the relevant developments and has launched an investigation into several suspects accused of inciting illegal crossings. The Moroccan government has taken all necessary measures to severely crack down on any attempts to illegally cross the border into Ceuta and to intercept all participants. It is reported that posts have appeared on certain social media platforms urging people to cross into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco on August 15.
