On August 12, the U.S. International Trade Commission announced the initiation of a "337 investigation" into certain mobile electronic devices. The investigation originated from a complaint submitted by Japan's Maxell on July 10, which was later revised and submitted on July 24, alleging that the relevant products infringed on several of its patents during the import and sale processes in the United States, and seeking the issuance of a limited exclusion order and a cease and desist order. The targets of this investigation include Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. The USITC stated that it has not yet made a substantive ruling on the case, and further proceedings will involve administrative law judges holding hearings and making preliminary determinations. The USITC will establish a target date for completing the investigation within 45 days after the initiation of the investigation.
