Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., will introduce a range of new health features for wearable devices, including a tool that can track insulin resistance over the long term. This marks a new step for the consumer technology company as it explores more comprehensive blood glucose monitoring. The new tool announced by Google on Wednesday will not continuously monitor or display blood sugar levels, which would be a significant breakthrough if achieved. Instead, Google will track a variety of physiological indicators to assess how burdened the body is when metabolizing food. The company combines artificial intelligence with data from multiple sensors, including accelerometers, barometers, as well as heart rate and skin temperature sensors. If the system detects changes in the user's level of insulin resistance, the Google Health app will issue a notification, at which point users can consider adjusting their lifestyle or consulting a doctor. If insulin resistance is not addressed over the long term, it may progress to prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Other new health features launched by Google also include tracking blood pressure trends and nighttime breathing patterns. Google integrates these new tools with existing features into a suite called Health Guardian, designed to help users understand subtle physiological trends and make corresponding lifestyle adjustments. These features will be launched later and will be unveiled in New York alongside Google's new Pixel smartphone. The company stated that the new features will first be available on the Pixel Watch 5 and Fitbit Air, before expanding to other devices.
