The Colombian Geological Survey: This earthquake is not related to volcanic activity.
On the 10th local time, the Colombian Geological Survey stated that the strong earthquake that occurred in the country's Choc department that day was unrelated to recent activities at the Purac Volcano and the Los Coconuco Volcano chain. It is reported that on the morning of the 10th, the Purac Volcano experienced volcanic ash and gas emissions, leading to the temporary suspension of operations at the nearby Popayn airport. The Purac Volcano, located in the southwestern department of Cauca, has an elevation of about 4,750 meters and is one of the most active volcanoes in Colombia. On August 1st, the Colombian Geological Survey raised the alert level for the "Purac Volcano Los Coconuco Volcano chain" from yellow to orange, citing abnormal changes such as increased shallow seismic activity, heightened volcanic ash, and gas emission columns.
