The Bank of Japan announced the opinions from its meeting, with several members calling for a faster rate hike.
On the 10th local time, the Bank of Japan announced the main opinions expressed at the monetary policy meeting held on July 30-31 this year. Although the Bank of Japan kept the policy interest rate unchanged at 1% after this meeting, some policymakers warned that the risk of inflation exceeding 2% should not be overlooked and suggested that the pace of interest rate hikes should be accelerated. The Economic and Fiscal White Paper for FY2026 released by the Cabinet Office on July 24 pointed out that Japan's economic recovery still faces multiple challenges due to inflationary pressures from the Middle East situation and ongoing structural issues such as labor shortages.
