According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. officials have stated that Trump is very patient and is expected to weather this round of diplomatic standoff, especially if gasoline prices remain at current levels. A White House official insisted that the U.S. has accomplished all its military objectives regarding Iran. Trump's current focus is on ensuring the smooth transport of global energy through the Strait of Hormuz, and if Iran further attacks vessels, the U.S. will continue to keep military options on the table. Regarding the nuclear issue, officials added that Trump privately told senior aides in recent weeks that U.S. military forces destroyed three major Iranian nuclear facilities last year, making it likely that Iran will not be able to restart its nuclear activities during his administration. In recent meetings, Trump stated that if Iran attempts to rebuild nuclear facilities or secretly manufacture nuclear weapons, U.S. intelligence agencies will detect it in a timely manner, and he believes the threat of further U.S. strikes will serve as a lasting deterrent. Officials stated that if the U.S. can control Iran's nuclear program and the Strait is reopened for navigation, Trump is more likely to indefinitely extend the current ceasefire. If Iran fully reopens the Strait, Trump is also expected to lift the U.S. military blockade on Iranian ports.
