Low Water Levels in the Loire River in France Prompt Local Government to Consider Water Extraction Restrictions

Due to the ongoing high temperatures and drought, the water level of the Loire River in France has dropped significantly, and some local governments are considering restricting water extraction from the river for drinking purposes. On September 9, French commercial radio station reported that in the town of Loire-Authion in the Loire department on the Atlantic coast, the water level of the Loire River is 8 to 9 meters lower than it was in February. Mayor Jean-Paul Huet of Loire-Authion stated that if the drought situation does not improve, the city will restrict residents from extracting water from the Loire River for drinking.
