The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has added P-band resources to help respond to extreme weather.

On August 7, reporters learned that in response to the frequent occurrence of extreme weather and severe weather conditions, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently allocated additional P-band radio frequency resources for meteorological departments. This is intended for technical trials of the BeiDou satellite navigation meteorological sounding system to enhance China's ability to respond to extreme weather. It is reported that in 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has planned P-band radio frequency resources for the BeiDou satellite navigation meteorological sounding system, guiding local meteorological departments to carry out standardized construction of BeiDou satellite navigation meteorological sounding stations and ground receiving stations. These will be used for scenarios such as short-term precipitation forecasting, typhoon monitoring, refined intelligent grid forecasting, and weather system analysis, effectively improving the quality of high-altitude observation data and helping to elevate China's overall high-altitude observation capabilities to advanced levels globally. The newly allocated P-band radio frequency resources will be used for business trials involving replaying data during extreme weather, enhanced monitoring during flood seasons, and buoy observations, further improving meteorological departments' capabilities in disaster prevention and reduction, and strengthening their response to climate change, especially regarding extreme weather.
