Germany's energy grid financing system undergoes major reform: Renewable energy projects will bear costs for the first time.

Germany is embarking on a comprehensive reform of its overwhelmed electricity grid financing system, aiming to reduce electricity costs for industrial and commercial users while requiring renewable energy generators to bear grid costs for the first time. The Federal Network Agency of Germany released a draft reform plan on Thursday, proposing a one-time grid connection fee for wind farms and photovoltaic plants, and starting in 2029, annual fees at a standard rate of 4 to 7 euros per kilowatt. This move is intended not only to distribute the cost burden more equitably but also to better match electricity supply and demand, alleviating the long-standing issue of grid congestion.
