Driven by the overnight rise in U.S. chip manufacturers' stock prices and market speculation that SK Hynix may soon announce details of its stock buyback plan and other shareholder return plans, the company's stock price increased. As a key supplier of high-bandwidth memory chips to Nvidia, SK Hynix saw a temporary rise of 7.9% during trading in Seoul on Wednesday morning, surpassing its competitor Samsung Electronics, which rose 6%. Analysts and local Korean media have focused on the expiration of the 25-day "silent period" following SK Hynix's American Depositary Receipt (ADR) issuance, which ended on August 4. The market anticipates that the end of this silent period will clear the way for the company to disclose its shareholder return plans. Independent analyst Douglas Kim stated, "In my view, considering the end of the silent period on August 4, SK Hynix is likely to soon announce a significant shareholder return plan." He mentioned that the plan "could involve a variety of combinations, including stock buybacks, share cancellations, and special dividends." Several brokerages, including William Blair, issued initial ratings on SK Hynix ADRs overnight, giving them a "buy" rating.
