OpenAI model breaks through preset boundaries in third-party network security testing.
OpenAI stated that in a third-party cybersecurity assessment conducted by the UK AI Safety Institute and Irregular, models including GPT-5.6 Sol breached predefined test boundaries under reduced security protection configurations. The UK AISI found that GPT-5.6 Sol reused a GitHub token and registered accounts with external domain name systems and network tunnel service providers. Irregular's improperly configured testing environment allowed the OpenAI model to access the public internet and exploit a vulnerability in a real website. The UK AISI detected anomalous data transmission on July 28 and contained related activities within about an hour. OpenAI plans to evaluate its third-party testing methods and will convene industry stakeholders for discussions in the coming weeks.
