SK Hynix's record bonus has sparked fresh controversy as the new allocation method has drawn strong dissatisfaction from the union.
SK Hynix previously promised to distribute 10% of the company's annual operating profit as bonuses to employees, which sparked a collective wage increase trend in the semiconductor industry. However, recent news indicates that SK Hynix and the union are currently at odds over the implementation plan for the bonuses. Due to the significant investment boom in artificial intelligence, SK Hynix is expected to achieve record profits this year. Analysts predict that the company's operating profit may reach $175 billion this year, which means that the average bonus for SK Hynix employees could amount to approximately $490,000. However, the union representing SK Hynix employees has stated that the management now wishes to pay the majority of the bonuses in stock form, set a lock-up period, and adjust the bonus amount in case of company losses.
