The first occurrence of H5 avian influenza in Australia has led to a large-scale death of birds.

According to news from Australia on the 3rd, a large-scale bird mortality event caused by H5 avian influenza has occurred for the first time near the southeast coast of South Australia, affecting the great crested tern. So far, there have been 78 confirmed cases in Australia. Australian Federal Agriculture Minister Collins stated that the mass mortality event among birds was anticipated, and Australians may see the avian influenza continue to spread, affecting more and more wildlife. Australian Environment Minister Watt noted that a national management plan for H5 avian influenza has been initiated, with the state and federal governments allocating an additional AUD 24 million on top of the AUD 113 million already invested.
