The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and two other departments recently jointly issued the "Notice on Organizing the Recommendation Work for Key Industry Energy Efficiency and Carbon Efficiency Leader Enterprises for the Year 2026," aiming to promote energy-saving and carbon reduction renovations in industrial enterprises and to drive the green and low-carbon transformation of key industries. This marks the first time that China has conducted a selection of carbon efficiency leader enterprises. The notice proposes to further expand the coverage of energy efficiency leader enterprises in key industries, adding sub-sectors such as industrial sulfuric acid, industrial glacial acetic acid, formaldehyde, styrene, and monocrystalline silicon, thus expanding the recommendation scope to 43 sub-sectors. Building on the energy efficiency leader work, the notice also innovatively initiates the recommendation work for carbon efficiency leaders, designating five sectorselectrolytic aluminum, cement clinker, synthetic ammonia, ethylene, and methanolas the first batch of carbon efficiency leader enterprise recommendation areas.
