Our country's research team has proposed a new concept of programmable plant synthetic immunity.
The global agriculture industry has long been plagued by plant diseases, with various types of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and oomycetes repeatedly attacking crops and causing huge economic losses every year. Breeding disease-resistant varieties is the most economical and sustainable way of green disease control, and for thousands of years, human breeding for disease resistance has always followed the old path of "exploring natural disease-resistant genes". Through research, a Chinese scientific research team has proposed a new scientific concept of programmable plant synthetic immunity for the first time, establishing an artificially designed platform for plant immune receptor customization to meet specific needs. This advancement has shifted crop breeding from "natural utilization" to "targeted creation", strengthening the technological barriers for food security by addressing emerging and variant crop diseases. The relevant results were published online by the international academic journal "Science" on July 24th.
