Three major indicators hit a new high! China's shipbuilding industry continues to lead the world.

On July 23, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released statistics for China's shipbuilding industry in the first half of 2026. The data shows that China's shipbuilding completion volume, new order volume, and order backlog volume have all reached historic highs, maintaining the leading position in the global market. In the first half of this year, the shipbuilding completion volume, which represents China's shipbuilding capacity, reached 36.5 million deadweight tons, an increase of 51.2% year-on-year; the order backlog volume, a symbol of the long-term stability of the shipbuilding industry, reached 363.25 million deadweight tons, an increase of 54.9% year-on-year. The new order volume, which represents market competitiveness, reached 121.06 million deadweight tons, an increase of 173.1% year-on-year, surpassing the historical peak of annual orders. In the new order data, it was found that China's new order volume for three major mainstream ship types - bulk carriers, container ships, and oil tankers - all exceeded 80% of the international market share.
