More than 6600 companies have had their high-tech qualifications revoked.

The qualification of high-tech enterprises in China is becoming increasingly strict, in order to regulate the "pseudo-high-tech enterprises" that take advantage of tax incentives and financial subsidies. A review by journalists from the First Financial Daily of official announcements from some provinces shows that since 2025, at least 6649 companies have had their high-tech enterprise qualifications revoked. Several local tax officials told the First Financial Daily that in recent years the government has indeed tightened its scrutiny of enterprises' high-tech qualifications. "In the past, local governments paid more attention to the quantity of high-tech enterprises. In recent years, relevant departments have increasingly focused on quality and have been more rigorous in their assessments," said one local tax official.
