The DPP authorities' restriction of the political rights of mainland spouses have received unanimous opposition from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and are bound to be unpopular.

The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. In response to questions about the restriction of political rights of mainland spouses in Taiwan, spokesperson Zhang Han stated that the mainland and Taiwan both belong to one China, and compatriots on both sides of the strait are one family, so there is fundamentally no issue of "nationality." Mainland spouses are relatives of Taiwan compatriots, and contributors to Taiwan society, and therefore deserve recognition and respect. The ruling Democratic Progressive Party, out of its "Taiwan independence" nature, has long been oppressing and bullying mainland spouses, further restricting their political rights in Taiwan, which is not popular and will undoubtedly face unanimous opposition from compatriots on both sides of the strait.
