Democratic U.S. Senators urge Wall Street to reject buying Trump's posts "exclusive reading rights"
Democratic Senator Mark Warner of the Senate urged banks and trading companies on Tuesday not to use a new product that allows for early access to posts from former President Trump's social media platform "Truth Social", warning that this could lead to a "very concerning information asymmetry in government policy". Earlier this month, the Trump media and tech group launched a paid data service called "Truth API" that provides banks and trading companies with the "fastest" push notifications of posts from Truth Social accounts, including Trump's own account. Trump's posts often cause global market fluctuations. Warner urged the leaders of major financial industry associations in the United States to publicly oppose such arrangements, believing that it would allow Trump to gain personal economic benefits from government policy information. "I urge you to make it clear: the financial services industry will not endorse arrangements that could affect the market by giving the President preferential access to communications, especially when such arrangements could bring economic benefits to the President personally," he wrote in his letter to the heads of the six major financial industry associations. Warner is also a member of the Senate Banking Committee.
