Trump meets with Lebanese President Aoun.
On July 21st local time, US President Trump met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun. Trump stated that they had previously communicated through representatives multiple times and that the relationship between the two sides was very cordial. Trump said that Lebanon has long been treated extremely unfairly and that the US will provide assistance to Lebanon. Trump stated that they will discuss the Lebanese army taking over villages evacuated by Hezbollah, and that the US has already developed some very specific plans, with other parties also offering assistance. Trump also said that if Lebanese President Aoun wishes, he will engage in dialogue with Hezbollah. Lebanese security sources and local witnesses confirmed on the 21st that after the Israeli military withdrew from the southern Lebanese town of Ghajar, the Lebanese army had begun to enter the town and set up defense points. The US State Department issued a statement on the 20th saying that the Israeli military's withdrawal from the first "pilot area" in southern Lebanon began in three villages in southern Lebanon that day.
