Sumitomo Chemical will mass produce solid-state battery materials for electric vehicles.

According to reports, Sumitomo Chemical plans to mass produce a new solid-state battery electrolyte material for electric vehicles as early as the fiscal year 2028. The material uses a halide system with chlorine as the main component, with the potential to reduce costs without compromising performance, making it an alternative to sulfide and oxide electrolyte materials. This material was developed through a collaboration between Sumitomo Chemical, Kyoto University, and Tottori University.
