According to Nikkei Asia, citing multiple informed sources, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plans to increase the outsourcing prices of advanced and mature process chips by up to 10% in 2027 to cope with the pressure from rising costs of materials, manufacturing equipment, and overseas new factory construction. TSMC has already begun negotiations with customers regarding the price increase, involving 7-nanometer and more advanced processes. This segment of business accounted for approximately 77% of TSMC's revenue from April to June this year. The informed sources stated that the base price increase will range from 5% to 10%, depending on the customer and product. For additional orders of high-performance computing (HPC) chips beyond the customers' initial forecasts, TSMC plans to add a premium of 10% to 15% on top of the base price increase. Therefore, the overall price increase for some advanced process chip orders may exceed 10%. In terms of mature processes (including 12nm, 16nm, 28nm processes, and other traditional technologies), TSMC plans to increase prices by up to 10%, but some products may see lower increases. The mature process business accounted for approximately 23% of the company's revenue in the previous quarter. The sources mentioned that negotiations started around June and the new prices were finalized in July, set to take effect at the beginning of 2027.
