Copper prices edged higher; market is paying attention to AI demand and conflict in the Middle East.
Copper prices in Asia rose in early trading. The three-month London Metal Exchange copper contract rose by 0.3% to $13,561.00 per ton. According to a report by Goldman Sachs research department, copper prices may be driven by emotions surrounding artificial intelligence, which are increasingly affecting expectations for future electricity and copper demand. However, the institution stated: "If the conflict in the Middle East escalates further and intensifies concerns about inflation and interest rate hikes, we believe copper prices may face downside risks in the near term." Goldman Sachs also noted that with inventories at low levels and the Chinese spot market continuing to tighten, this could help cushion any downward pressure.
