Canadian Prime Minister: Mobilizing all resources to respond to severe wildfires.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on the evening of the 18th on the social media platform X that Canada is facing one of the most serious wildfire seasons in history, due to extreme heat waves and record-breaking drought. The government is mobilizing all resources to respond to the disaster. Carney stated that wildfires in the northwest of Ontario are particularly severe, with over 10 communities being forced to evacuate. Currently, over 5,300 firefighters have been deployed nationwide, and nearly 300 aircraft of various types have been put into operation on the fire frontlines, including water bombers, helicopters, and evacuation aircraft. Canada is utilizing technology such as drones and thermal imaging to support real-time monitoring of the fires and firefighting efforts. In recent times, wildfires have occurred in many parts of Canada. The latest data released by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center on the 18th showed that there were 102 new wildfires that day, bringing the total number of fires to 959. So far this year, Canada has recorded 3,815 wildfires, with an area of over 2.9 million hectares burned.
