On July 18th, it was reported that Apple is in early settlement talks with the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the antitrust lawsuit scheduled to be filed in 2024. The U.S. government, during the Biden administration, sued Apple, accusing the company of maintaining dominance in the iPhone ecosystem by limiting competition from rivals, software developers, and consumer choice. Apple has submitted proposals to the Department of Justice this year to end the lawsuit. Previously, Apple has adjusted policies in response to some of the allegations, such as opening up app functionality to developers, supporting the RCS messaging standard promoted by Google, allowing cloud gaming apps, and opening the iPhone payment chip interface. However, Apple still does not allow the Apple Watch to be fully compatible with Android devices. In June 2025, Apple applied for the dismissal of the antitrust lawsuit, but it was not supported by the court.
