Insiders revealed that Apple (AAPL.O) is in preliminary settlement negotiations with the US Department of Justice over a lawsuit scheduled for 2024 that accuses Apple of violating antitrust laws. Apple and the US Department of Justice have not immediately responded to requests for comment. Reports state that both parties are actively negotiating, but there is no guarantee that a final agreement will be reached. It is also reported that Apple has submitted multiple proposals to the US Department of Justice in hopes of settling the case. In 2024, as the government increases its crackdown on tech giants, the US Department of Justice and 15 states have filed lawsuits against Apple alleging that it monopolizes the smartphone market, harms small competitors, and raises prices. It is currently unknown whether state attorneys general are engaged in settlement negotiations.
