Buffett: Holding a large position in Alphabet decided personally, regret buying in too late.
Legendary investor Warren Buffett recently stated in an interview that Berkshire Hathaway's recent significant investment in Google's parent company, Alphabet, was personally initiated by him, not by the new CEO Greg Abel. Buffett revealed that he initiated the deal and insisted that he maintains extremely close communication with his successor, Abel. Although they both mutually recognize each other's decisions in major matters, Buffett is the final decision-maker in this investment. Despite personally overseeing this huge investment, the 95-year-old Buffett admitted during the interview that he made a mistake by not investing in Alphabet earlier. He has long expressed regret for missing out on the early rise of this tech giant, mentioning that even as early as 2018, despite witnessing Google's massive success through his insurance company Geico's advertising business, he still lacked the confidence to determine if Google could become a long-term winner in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
