On July 15th, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. A reporter asked about the recent incident where soybean salad oil in Taiwan was found to contain carcinogenic substance "benzo[a]pyrene" exceeding the standard, causing concerns in Taiwanese society about food safety regulation. Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian stated that "benzo[a]pyrene" has been classified by the World Health Organization as a Group 1 carcinogen. Over 3900 tons of "problematic oil products" have flowed into many households, schools, and restaurants, seriously endangering the lives and health of the people in Taiwan. Faced with this major food safety incident, the Democratic Progressive Party government has delayed handling it, attempting to cover up information, fully exposing its disregard for the livelihood of the people.
