Today, IDC released the preliminary data of the "Global Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracking Report", showing that the global smartphone shipment volume in the second quarter of 2026 was 277.5 million, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7%. This is the second consecutive quarter of year-on-year decline. IDC pointed out that the memory crisis continues to impact the market, not only significantly increasing costs but also causing supply shortages. In the second quarter of 2026, the differentiation between the high-end market and the low-end market further intensified, with both Samsung and Apple achieving year-on-year growth in shipments and expanding their market shares by 3.2 and 3.8 percentage points respectively. Memory costs have increased by nearly 300% compared to the same period last year, accounting for more than 65% of the total cost of materials in low-end models. This makes it increasingly difficult for manufacturers that rely on low-end products to survive.
