At the regular press conference for the first half of 2026 held this morning, Wang Guodong, Deputy Director of the National Medical Insurance Administration, introduced that from January to May this year, the number of participants in the basic medical insurance nationwide reached 1.319 billion, an increase of 4.69 million compared to the same period last year. Among them, 386 million employees participated in the employee medical insurance, an increase of 7.16 million compared to the same period last year; 923 million residents participated in the resident medical insurance, a decrease of 2.46 million compared to the same period last year, and the insurance structure continued to optimize. At the same time, the revenue of the national basic medical insurance fund reached 1.61 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.89% year-on-year; the fund expenditure was 1.21 trillion yuan, an increase of 2.12% year-on-year. Wang Guodong stated that the operation of the medical security system in the first half of this year was generally stable, the scale of participation remained stable, and the operation of the medical insurance fund was generally stable.
