Lagarde does not rule out the possibility of leaving the European Central Bank early to venture into French politics.
The President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, has indicated that she does not rule out leaving her current position early to enter the French political arena. "It is possible," she said in an interview with "Le Figaro" when asked if this was also an option if uncertainties were to disappear, "I believe that the voice of Europe needs to be heard in the debates among French presidential candidates." In the interview, Lagarde reiterated her previous comments: "Given that we are once again in turbulent times, I believe that the captain of the ship that is the European Central Bank should stay on board." Lagarde has repeatedly been associated with national politics, although she had previously described the position of French President as a "terrifying job." Her term as President will end in October 2027. She told Le Figaro that in the coming months she could "certainly" have frank discussions with some French candidates.
