The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference this morning, with Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office, presiding over the conference. ETtoday, a reporter from Taiwan's Eastern Media, asked: Currently, there is a decreasing trend in the amount and proportion of goods under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) being exported to the mainland. There are speculations from the outside that the remaining early harvest list of ECFA projects may be discontinued in the future. Do you have any comments on this? Zhu Fenglian replied: In June 2010, the two sides signed the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement on the basis of the "1992 Consensus". Over the years, we have earnestly fulfilled our commitments, promoted and safeguarded the effectiveness and implementation of the ECFA, bringing tangible benefits to relevant enterprises and people in Taiwan, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, and farmers and fishermen. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) attacked the ECFA before taking office and severely obstructed its implementation after taking office. They not only failed to take effective measures to lift discriminatory trade restrictions on the mainland but also constantly intensified the modification of rules and obstacles, maliciously obstructing and damaging normal economic exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, leading to mainland authorities having to suspend tariff reductions on some ECFA products. The responsibility for this lies entirely with the DPP authorities.
