Nissan CEO strongly asserts that the cooperation with Renault has never been so solid.
After Nissan lost a board member, its partner and largest shareholder Renault Group withdrew its support, but this Japanese carmaker quickly sent a clear signal: all is well. During an interview in New York, Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa downplayed the significance of Renault's refusal last week to reappoint influential external director Motoo Nagai. Despite the move resulting in Motoo Nagai losing his board seat, which he had held since 2019, Espinosa stated that this does not mean that Nissan's relationship with Renault is tense again. "A lot of comments are made when there is a change in the cross-shareholding structure, like 'they are getting divorced, they hate each other'," Espinosa said, "but the reality is that our collaboration is now closer than ever before."
