The BHP Group has submitted an environmental impact assessment report and plans to invest $1.5 billion to restart the Colorado Hill copper mine in northern Chile, with the goal of extending the mine's operating life by another 20 years. The proposal aims to reopen this mine located in the Tarapac Region; the mine had ceased operations in 2023 due to expired environmental permits. BHP stated that the project will create approximately 1,500 construction jobs and over 3,000 long-term operational jobs.
