Federal Reserve Chairman Powell avoided the question of whether the Fed could raise interest rates at its meeting in July. "I hope that when we meet in four weeks, we can have a full 'family discussion,'" he said. "When we close the door to the meeting, we will have intense debate. But other than that, I have no more information to disclose." Powell made the remarks at the annual European Central Bank policy seminar held in Sintra, Portugal; this was his first public appearance since attending a Fed press conference last month. Since then, investors have begun to anticipate more rate hikes by the Fed, but the market currently estimates the likelihood of the first rate hike this month to be less than 50%.
