Federal Reserve Chairman Powell avoided questions about whether the Federal Reserve might raise interest rates at the July meeting. "I hope we can have a full 'family discussion' when we meet in four weeks," he said. "When we close the door and have meetings, we have intense debates. But other than that, I have no more information to disclose." Powell made the remarks at the annual policy symposium of the European Central Bank in Sintra, Portugal; this was his first public appearance since attending a Federal Reserve press conference last month. Since then, investors have begun to anticipate more rate hikes by the Federal Reserve, but the market currently estimates the likelihood of the first rate hike this month to be less than 50%.
