Oman was exposed to have launched a policy of charging fees for the Hormuz Strait, following the voluntary model of the Malacca Strait.

Multiple informed diplomats revealed that Oman recently submitted a formal proposal to the United States and other Western allies. According to the proposal, shipping companies will need to pay a service fee to use the strait. The service fee is considered "voluntary payment" rather than a "mandatory toll."
