The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued a warning on July 1, 2026 for the risk of flooding in farmlands and wind disasters: a tropical depression in the South China Sea was formed on the morning of July 1 and is expected to develop into a typhoon in the next 24 hours. Due to its influence, heavy to torrential rain is expected in central and western areas of South China, western areas of Jiangnan, and eastern regions of Southwest China from July 3-5. Locally, there may be heavy rainfall. Strong winds are expected in the northern part of the South China Sea, the eastern and northern parts of Hainan Island, and the southern coast of Guangdong, with wind speeds reaching 9-11 on the Beaufort scale and gusts of 12-13. Severe weather may lead to crop lodging and damage to economic fruit trees, as well as harm to agricultural and fishery facilities. The risk of flooding in low-lying farmlands is high in central and western parts of Hunan, central and eastern areas of Guangxi, central and western parts of Guangdong, and southeastern parts of Guizhou. Some parts of farmlands in southwestern Hunan, northern and southeastern parts of Guangxi, southwestern Guangdong, and Hainan are also at risk of flooding and wind disasters. It is recommended that these areas clear water channels in advance, prepare drainage equipment and materials, drain water and loosen soil after the rain, and timely spray pesticides and apply fertilizers. Ocean ranches should harvest early, reinforce facilities, and return fishing boats to port in a timely manner to avoid storms.
