The National Immigration Department has clarified the four types of approval standards for mainland residents settling in Hong Kong and Macau, which will be implemented starting from July 1st.
According to the Wise Finance APP, on June 30, the National Immigration Administration issued an announcement regarding the approval conditions for mainland residents to settle in Hong Kong and Macao. Starting from July 1, 2026, the approval conditions for mainland residents to settle in Hong Kong and Macao are as follows: 1. Spouse reunion and accompanying children category: the applicant has been separated from their Hong Kong or Macao spouse for at least 3 years; 2. Children joining parents category: the applicant is under 18 years old and both parents are settled in Hong Kong or Macao; 3. Children taking care of parents category: the applicant is aged between 18 and 59, both parents are settled in Hong Kong or Macao, both parents are over 60 years old and have no children in Hong Kong or Macao; 4. Parents joining children category: the applicant is over 60 years old with no children in mainland China, and their child settled in Hong Kong or Macao is over 18 years old. The public security immigration authorities will approve mainland residents to settle in Hong Kong and Macao based on the settlement quota and approval conditions.
