State Grid announced on June 30th that the Shaanbei-Anhui 800 kV Ultra High Voltage Direct Current Transmission Project was put into operation on that day. This is the first UHVDC transmission project put into operation during China's "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, and it is also another landmark project for the national grid to transmit electricity from west to east. Green electricity from Shaanbei will light up the Dabie Mountain area. The project starts at the Yan'an Baotashan converter station in Shaanxi, passes through Shaanxi, Henan, and Anhui provinces, and ends at the Hefei Hezhou converter station in Anhui, with a total length of over 1,000 kilometers. The project has a rated voltage of 800 kV and a rated capacity of 8 million kilowatts. After being put into operation, it can transmit more than 36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Anhui annually, with more than 50% of the electricity coming from new energy sources. In addition to providing reliable electricity for Anhui and the East China region, it also replaces the consumption of 5.5 million tons of coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 14 million tons annually, with significant energy-saving benefits.
