The oldest active nuclear power plant in Europe has temporarily stopped operation due to high temperatures.
Due to the high temperature weather causing the river water used to cool the nuclear reactor to be too high, Swiss energy company Axpo said on the 26th that the Beznau nuclear power plant in northern Switzerland has been temporarily shut down that day. This nuclear power plant is the oldest operational nuclear power plant in Europe. Axpo said on its website that the water temperature of the Aare River reached 25 degrees Celsius on the 25th and 26th again, which cannot be used for cooling. Therefore, the Beznau nuclear power plant has "temporarily shut down two reactors." The company is continuing to monitor the water temperature of the Aare River, and once the river water temperature drops or there are enough cooling conditions predicted, the reactors can be planned to be restarted. The restart work will be carried out after approval from the relevant regulatory authorities.
